A press conference on the Locator system was held at the Svyaz-Expocomm-2002 exhibition.

At the Svyaz-Expocomm-2002 exhibition, a press conference was held dedicated to the launch into test operation of a distributed mobile object monitoring system (Locator system). This is a new integrated service of the strategic alliance of Megafon, Prin and Race Communications companies. The Locator software and hardware complex, developed by Race Communications, provides access via the Internet or a corporate network to a multi-user geo-information server and obtaining a scalable vector map displaying the location of its mobile objects. The system also has the functions of transmitting the coordinates and speed of the vehicle, generating and displaying warning messages on the dispatcher's screen, viewing the route of the vehicle for any time interval, and others.

System Interface

Leonid Lopatin, Managing Director of Race Communications, spoke at the press conference with a brief story about the purpose and capabilities of the system. Kirill Kucherov, manager for the development of new services of the Megafon cellular network (CJSC "Sonic Duo"), noted the prospects and geographical independence of the project due to the services provided by the Megafon network in the entire coverage area of GSM networks - both in Russia and abroad. Alexey Troitsky, General Director of the Prin company, announced further plans for the development and supply of the necessary on-board equipment.


Since May, the system has been operating in test operation mode, the provision of services on a commercial basis is scheduled for the IV quarter of 2002, after comprehensive testing in various organizations.
