Press release: Race Communications introduces Motorola Vanguard 340 multiservice routers.

Race Company
Communications, one of the leading Russian system
integrators, in June began to supply to Russia
new Vanguard 340 multiservice routers
of the Multiservice Networks Division (MND) of Motorola,
the world leader in the production
of access devices and packet telephony tools. For the first
time, domestic users could see them at
the Svyaz-Expocomm-2001 exhibition.

The Vanguard 340 device is available in
a compact desktop case 196x66x313 mm with an external
power supply. On the motherboard there are
Ethernet ports 10/100 BaseT, Serial (universal
programmable V.24/V.35/V.36/X.21, up to 2 Mbit/s),
console port. The “heart” of the router —
RISC-Motorola PowerPC 860T processor, for OS storage
flash memory with a capacity of 4 MB is used
(expandable to 8 MB), S-DRAM RAM
has a volume of 16 MB (expandable to 32 MB).

Two connectors are used to install
standard Motorola daughter boards: for
data transmission Serial, ISDN BRI Data, Fractional E1; for voice transmission
over IP and Frame Relay boards 2 Port FXS, 1 Port FXO/FXS, 2 Port E&M, ISDN
BRI S0; for video transmission RemoteVU. Thanks to a wide
range of interfaces, Vanguard 340 is able to serve
the most common applications that
are used today in enterprises,
banking and trading structures, and providers.
By the end of 2001, the release of multiport
daughter voice cards (3-4 FXS/FXO ports) for
the Vanguard family will begin.

The performance of the new
router reaches 10,000 IP packets per second,
which not only fully meets
today's requirements for telecommunications
networks, but will also allow in the future to use
integrated means of high-speed access,
including ATM, ADSL, wireless access.

Like all Vanguard devices, the 340 model
runs an operating system
Motorola Open Networking System (ONS), which has a rich
library of network protocols: IP, IPX, AppleTalk, SNA
(IBM mainframe networks), X.25, Frame Relay, PPP, Multilink PPP, etc
. Thanks to advanced traffic management
tools (Type of Service, Time of Week, prioritization by
port number, type protocol, network addresses, etc
.) Motorola equipment increases the efficiency
of using the available bandwidth
of the communication channel.

In the configuration of the voice gateway, Vanguard
340 supports the transmission of telephone traffic
over IP networks (Voice over IP, VoIP) and Frame Relay (VoFR),
voice compression using CV-SELP algorithms (developed by Motorola),
G.723.1 and G.729 (included in the H.323 standard). Implementation in the OS
ONS of many functions inherent in modern PBX
(multi-channel telephone, centralized
table of numbers, conversion of telephone
interfaces and alarm schemes), allows
you to create integrated
telecommunications systems based on Vanguard with simultaneous
transmission of multimedia traffic (telephony,
video) and data.

The retail price of the Motorola Vanguard 340 device
in the minimum configuration at Race Communications
is $1869.
